National Nutrition Agency Clarifies Hoax Regarding Suspension of Free Nutritious Meal Programme
Jakarta, VIVA – Social media has been abuzz with a circulating image claiming that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme is being temporarily suspended starting Friday, 5 June 2026. The widespread narrative suggested that the suspension was due to technical constraints regarding operational funds and would last for an indefinite period.
This information spread rapidly across various social media platforms, triggering diverse reactions from the public. Many netizens questioned the continuity of this flagship government programme, particularly as the MBG has already been implemented in various regions, targeting numerous beneficiaries.
Responding to the viral news, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) immediately issued an official clarification. The BGN asserted that the information circulating on social media regarding the temporary suspension of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme is untrue and constitutes a hoax.
In its official statement, the BGN ensured that the circulating image was not an official announcement issued by the agency. Consequently, the public is urged not to trust information from unverified and unclear sources.
“The information contained in the image is untrue (hoax) and is not an official announcement from the National Nutrition Agency,” the BGN wrote in its official statement.
BGN Confirms MBG Programme Continues
The BGN emphasised that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme throughout Indonesia remains ongoing as intended. There are no policies regarding the suspension of services or the postponement of the programme in the field.
This clarification was issued to address public anxiety arising from reports of alleged operational funding constraints, which were cited as the reason for the programme’s alleged suspension.
According to the BGN, on Friday, 5 June 2026, budget disbursements were actually carried out through a top-up mechanism of Government Assistance Funds (Banper) for all Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). This step was taken to ensure that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme continues to run smoothly across various regions.
With this budget disbursement, the BGN reaffirmed that financial support for the programme remains ongoing in accordance with the mechanisms established by the government.
Instructions to Regional Officials
Following the spread of this false information, the BGN has also requested all officials involved in the programme’s implementation to actively communicate accurate information to the public and implementing partners.
