The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) has spoken out regarding an incident in which glass shattered at its office building in Central Jakarta. Spokesperson and Deputy Head of BGN, Arumsari, said the agency immediately carried out initial handling procedures to ensure the safety of all employees within the office premises.

“As soon as the incident occurred, we immediately carried out initial handling procedures to ensure the safety of employees at the location, from visual documentation, sterilisation of the area, to cleaning up emergency response materials,” Arum said in a statement on Thursday (9 July 2026).

The glass breakage occurred in the external area on the second floor of the BGN office at 11.25 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). One exterior glass panel detached from its seating after a sound was heard from the supporting ring (bracket support), then fell onto the asphalt area below the building and shattered into fragments.

Arum explained that BGN will conduct a thorough evaluation. The results of the examination will serve as the basis for determining repair measures whilst strengthening the building’s safety aspects going forward.

“We are also carrying out a thorough evaluation of building elements with similar characteristics as a mitigation step. BGN also prioritises safety aspects through regular inspections and any necessary follow-up actions so that this incident does not happen again,” Arum added.

BGN is currently carrying out further examinations to ascertain the exact cause of the incident, including evaluating the condition of the glass panels and their supporting structures. In recent years, similar incidents have occurred several times in various high-rise buildings, allegedly triggered by expansion caused by temperature differences between the hot weather outside the building and the cold temperatures inside the rooms.

BGN is committed to continuing to prioritise the safety of all employees within the office environment through rapid handling, thorough inspections, and preventive measures to ensure similar incidents do not recur.

Earlier, detikcom observations at the location on Thursday (9 July) at 14.36 WIB showed the front glass of the BGN building shattered. Glass fragments were seen scattered across the front courtyard.

A black-and-yellow police line was seen surrounding the area. An Inafis vehicle was also parked in the BGN building area.

A number of police officers were seen processing the crime scene (TKP). Other personnel were seen standing guard in front of the BGN building. Police said the glass was suspected to have shattered due to hot weather.

“Broken glass at the BGN building. The glass breakage is suspected to have been caused by hot temperatures outside and air conditioning inside, causing expansion that resulted in the glass shattering,” said Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung when asked for confirmation on Thursday (9 July).
