National Monument and Cipinang
The Jakarta administration plans to put a fence around the National Monument (Monas) park for the sake of security and order. This has led to debate over the pros and cons of the fencing plan. Hundreds of protesters are ready to stand as a living fence in their attempt to peacefully oppose this plan. (Rakyat Merdeka of Sept. 29).
The case is different with Cipinang. Reportedly, in July 2002 officials of East Jakarta Municipality stated before members of Cipinang Melayu village that the Jakarta administration would immediately erect a fence along the bank of Cipinang river (Sunter) with a dike.
Unlike the putting up of a fence round Monas, the plan to erect a fence along Cipinang river bank was non-controversial. All members of Cipinang Melayu village are eagerly awaiting the realization of this plan.
As the wet season is imminent, the Jakarta administration should start doing the fencing job in Cipinang to ensure that the locals will no longer be hit by floodwaters of over two meters high, as happened earlier this year.
The implementation of this plan will be an expression of gratitude to God for the election of Bang Yos and Bang Fauzi as the new governor and deputy governor of Jakarta. Doesn't God strengthen the position of people who express gratitude to Him?
