National Library Responds to Complaints Regarding iPusnas, Commences Phased Restoration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) has responded to public complaints regarding the iPusnas digital service, which has been difficult to access, and affirmed that restoration is being carried out in phases.
Secretary of Perpusnas, Joko Santoso, stated that the library is continuously strengthening the iPusnas digital service through technology updates and improved security systems as part of its commitment to providing a safe, stable, and sustainable digital knowledge service for the public.
“We are continuously striving to improve the quality of our digital services so that the public can access knowledge collections comfortably, safely, and sustainably. We also apologize to the public for the limited access that has occurred during the system strengthening process,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Joko added that the service enhancement is being carried out by adjusting the system architecture so that iPusnas can operate more optimally and reliably. This effort is in line with the increasing public need for digital reading services that can be accessed anytime and anywhere.
In addition, the system adjustment process is being carried out in a measured way so that services can return to optimal operation. Perpusnas ensures that the security of digital collections remains a priority in every stage of service enhancement.
As part of this process, Perpusnas is also migrating the system and conducting security tests with the assistance of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN). This step is taken to ensure that the security aspects of digital services remain protected and can withstand various potential cyber risks.
“The system enhancement is carried out through architectural updates, data migration, and security testing to make the service even more optimal. The testing process is also carried out in stages before the service is fully restored,” said Wiratna.
In the midst of the system enhancement process, the use of iPusnas continues to show a positive trend. According to data from the Perpusnas Data and Information Center (Pusdatin), iPusnas currently has approximately 134,309 titles in its collection with a total of 1,480,649 digital copies, and recorded 770,106 new users throughout 2025.
In line with this process, Perpusnas is targeting the phased restoration of iPusnas services after all testing processes are completed. The Android version is planned to be reactivated first, followed by the iOS and web versions in stages.
In addition to iPusnas, all of Perpusnas’s services, both online and offline, remain operational and accessible to the public. Other digital services such as BintangPusnas Edu, e-Resources, Khastara, and the Tanya Pustakawan chatbot also continue to operate as usual.
In managing digital services, Perpusnas also continues to ensure that the lending mechanism is fair for all parties. The iPusnas system is equipped with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology to maintain a balance of services for libraries, authors, and publishers.
In the future, Perpusnas is committed to continuing to strengthen digital literacy in the community while improving the quality of technology-based services. Digital literacy is expected to focus not only on the use of technology but also on its ethical, responsible, and productive use.
