The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) continues to strengthen its digital services, iPusnas, through technology updates and improved security systems. This step is part of the commitment to providing a safe, stable, and sustainable digital knowledge service for the community.

The strengthening of services is carried out by adjusting the system architecture so that iPusnas can operate more optimally and reliably. This effort is in line with the increasing community’s need for digital reading services that can be accessed anytime and anywhere.

The Secretary General of Perpusnas, Joko Santoso, emphasized that strengthening the system is part of improving the quality of Perpusnas’ digital services. According to him, this step aims to ensure that the community receives better and more sustainable services.

“We continue to strive to improve the quality of digital services so that the community can access knowledge collections comfortably, safely, and sustainably,” said Joko in an official statement in Jakarta. He also expressed his apologies to the public for the limited access that occurred during the system strengthening process.

According to Joko, the system adjustment process is carried out in a measured way so that services can return to optimal operation. Perpusnas ensures that the security of digital collections remains a priority in every stage of service strengthening.

As part of this process, Perpusnas also carries out system migration and security testing with the assistance of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN). This is done to ensure that the security aspects of digital services remain maintained and can face various potential cyber risks.

The Head of the Data and Information Center of Perpusnas, Wiratna Tritawirasta, explained that the increase in users is one of the important reasons for carrying out system updates. According to him, the update is carried out to adjust to technological developments while ensuring that services remain stable.

“System strengthening is carried out through architectural updates, data migration, and security testing so that services are even more optimal,” said Wiratna in an official statement in Jakarta. He added that the testing process is carried out in stages before services are fully restored.

In the midst of the system strengthening process, the use of iPusnas continues to show a positive trend. Based on data from the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) of Perpusnas, iPusnas currently has around 134,309 titles with a total of 1,480,649 digital copies, and recorded 770,106 new users throughout 2025.

In line with this process, Perpusnas targets the restoration of iPusnas services to be carried out in stages after all testing processes are completed. The Android version is planned to be reactivated first, followed by the iOS and web versions in stages.

In addition to iPusnas, all Perpusnas services, both online and offline, continue to operate normally and can be accessed by the public. Other digital services such as BintangPusnas Edu, e-Resources, Khastara, and the Tanya Pustakawan chatbot also continue to operate as usual.

In managing digital services, Perpusnas also continues to ensure that the borrowing mechanism is fair for all parties. The iPusnas system is equipped with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology to maintain a balance of services for libraries, authors, and publishers.

In the future, Perpusnas is committed to continuing to strengthen digital literacy in the community while improving the quality of technology-based services. Digital literacy is expected to focus not only on the use of technology, but also on its ethical, responsible, and productive use. (H-2)

Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bonnie Triyana, voiced strong criticism of the poor digital services and the concerning physical condition of libraries in Indonesia.

The condition of regional libraries and national digital services became the focus of a Hearing Meeting between Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Head of the National Library (Perpusnas).

Perpusnas has launched many assistance programs to strengthen reading culture, such as providing quality reading materials to villages, community reading parks, and places of worship.

“Children not only read short texts, but also learn to understand the context of images, characters, and figures in comics in a sustainable manner.”

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bonnie Triyana, highlighted the budget cuts for the National Library (Perpusnas).

If ancient manuscripts are only stored as personal property, there are concerns that they will be lost or damaged.

The theme of Perpusnas’ 45th anniversary is “Libraries Present for the Dignity of the Nation.”

One of the impacts highlighted is the damage to library collections, which amounts to thousands.

The manuscript of Sang Hyang Siksa Kandang Karesian was submitted as a single nomination by the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in the international MoW register.

Both parties will collaborate on a Thematic Community Service (KKN) program on literacy, involving various universities in Indonesia.
