National Human Rights Commission Urges National Police Criminal Investigation Agency to Take Over Andrie Yunus Case
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has urged the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) to take over the handling of the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus, to ensure the case is uncovered thoroughly and transparently.
Komnas HAM Commissioner Amiruddin Al Rahab stressed that this step is important to expedite the legal process and leave no room for the loss of evidence.
“Komnas HAM states that Bareskrim Polri needs to take over this case,” Amiruddin told reporters on Tuesday (31/3).
He explained that the longer the case handling takes, the greater the potential for evidence to be concealed. Therefore, the takeover by Bareskrim is deemed capable of accelerating and clarifying the investigation process.
“So that this case can be fully opened and the process can be quick. Because the longer it takes, there is potential room for concealing evidence,” he said.
Additionally, Amiruddin assessed that handling at the regional police level has not been adequate to uncover the case, which is suspected to involve many parties, including military elements.
“The second point is that this involves the Head of TNI’s Central Security and Escort Unit. Well, if it’s still at Polda, the Polda level is only a Brigadier General handling it, that’s why I urge Bareskrim so that the authority used is also adequate to open this case,” he continued.
According to him, Polri must not stop at the initial investigation stage, even though the TNI has announced suspects from the ranks of soldiers.
“But this must certainly uncover the involvement of many parties, and that is under Polri. That’s why I say Polri through Bareskrim must enter this now, so it can be faster,” he revealed.
Amiruddin also emphasised the importance of transparency to the public regarding developments in the case handling.
“I think if steps like that are taken, this case can be opened wider. There have been many repeated cases like this. Whether this case is connected? We don’t know yet today,” he explained.
Previously, Polda Metro Jaya had named two individuals with initials BHC and MAK as the executors of the acid attack on Kontras Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
On the other hand, four TNI soldiers are also suspected of being involved in the incident that occurred on Thursday night (12/3/2026) in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. The four, with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, are known to be assigned to the Headquarters Detachment (Denma) of TNI’s BAIS and are now detained at the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) TNI.
The acid splashing incident occurred after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Menteng.
