National Human Rights Commission: Difference in Suspect's Initials in Andrie Yunus Attack Not Significant, Same Person
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has confirmed there is no discrepancy in statements between the police and the TNI regarding the suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Although the initials differ, the individual in question is believed to be the same person.
“The difference in initials that we confirmed is not a significant difference. They said it’s approximately the same person. It’s the same person,” said Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian in an interview at the Komnas HAM building, as reported by Antara on Monday (30/3/2026).
The attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night (19/3). The attack is suspected to involve rogue TNI members.
He also stated that Polda Metro Jaya is currently conducting an intensive investigation into the involvement of TNI members as suspected perpetrators in the case.
“Polda Metro Jaya is still delving into the involvement of TNI parties. They are still carrying out further investigation processes. We will wait for the results of the investigation,” he said.
Komnas HAM has also confirmed the involvement of TNI members in the case, in line with Polda Metro Jaya’s confirmation that the four suspected perpetrators are personnel from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais).
“As stated in the release by Polda Metro Jaya, it has been confirmed that they are from Bais of the TNI,” he revealed.
Additionally, he explained that the TNI has received several documents required for the investigation into the acid attack case carried out by four Bais TNI personnel.
“The PMJ side handed over several documents needed by the TNI side. That’s what we obtained,” he clarified.
Komnas HAM has also received statements from Polda Metro Jaya regarding developments in the Andrie Yunus case investigation, which lasted three hours. The statements were provided by the Head of Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya and police officials.
To complete the monitoring, Komnas HAM has obtained facts on case developments from the police and stated that the police statements are sufficient as follow-up to the monitoring conducted.
“We have also obtained a lot of information from Polda Metro Jaya; we think it’s sufficient. The facts we need now have been conveyed in several matters, and we are still requesting a few more items from Polda Metro Jaya to be submitted to us,” he said.
Difference in Acid Attack Suspects’ Initials According to Police and TNI
The TNI and police have released developments in the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. However, both have their respective versions regarding the number and initials of the perpetrators.
TNI Version
The TNI Pushom revealed there are four Bais TNI soldiers who are suspected perpetrators, namely Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES. The four perpetrators are members of the Military Police of Bais TNI from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.
“We state that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the Denma Bais TNI, not from any specific unit but from Denma Bais TNI,” said TNI Pushom Chief Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
Yusri stated that three of the four suspects are officers, with the highest rank being captain. He said the suspects have currently been secured. They are also still being further investigated by Pushom TNI.
“So Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant ES. During the investigation, we will work as maximally as possible with the hope that we can carry it out as quickly as possible in a professional manner,” he said.
Police Version
Polda Metro Jaya has also announced that the executors of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus are suspected to be two perpetrators with initials BHC and MAK. However, the police suspect the total number of perpetrators involved in the acid attack is more than four people.
“Currently, we suspect that we can inform that the two people we showed earlier from this Polri data, one with initials BHC, two with initials MAK. However, from our investigation results, we do not rule out the possibility that the perpetrators could be suspected to be more than four,” said Head of Reskrimum Polda Metro Jaya Commissioner Iman Imannudin at Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
