The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has stated that the recovery of Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), will take up to two years.

“The focus of recovery will be carried out over the next six months. However, the operation and overall recovery is estimated to take between six months and two years ahead for treating his burn wounds,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian after visiting Andrie Yunus at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), Central Jakarta, on 26 March 2026.

Saurlin said that the costs of Andrie Yunus’s medical treatment are covered by the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

The duration of Andrie Yunus’s recovery process was learned by Komnas HAM after seeking information from RSCM officials. Komnas HAM Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi said that his organisation had met with RSCM leadership and several members of the medical team treating Andrie Yunus.

“We requested information regarding Brother AY’s condition from the time he was admitted to the hospital until the latest treatment,” he said. “We want to know the steps that have been taken by the medical team as well as future treatment plans.”

In addition to Andrie’s condition, Komnas HAM also gathered information on the severity of the impact from the acid liquid splashed on Andrie, both short-term and long-term effects, including physical and psychological aspects that the victim might experience.

Komnas HAM Chair Anis Hidayah explained that Komnas HAM is gathering information on the medical and psychological impacts on Andrie to be analysed based on facts. The results will be used to prepare recommendations on the attack. “Regarding the detailed material, we cannot disclose it now because it will be compiled in a separate recommendation,” Anis said.

Previously, RSCM revealed that in the last three days, the RSCM medical team found a recurrence of ischaemia (lack of blood flow) in the lower (inferior) area of the right eye’s sclera around 40 percent, causing thinning of the surrounding tissue.

RSCM Public Relations Head Yoga Nara said that based on this evaluation, the medical team decided to carry out further procedures to maintain tissue condition and support the healing process. Yoga revealed that Andrie underwent surgery involving an ophthalmology specialist team and plastic surgery in the Kencana operating room on 10 March 2026, at 10:00 WIB.

“In this procedure, the ophthalmology team performed tissue relocation from the inner eye area to cover the open area, attachment of an amniotic membrane, and reinstallation of the eye protective lens,” Yoga said in a written statement to Tempo on 26 March 2026.

Yoga explained that this procedure aims to repair the eye surface and support a more optimal tissue healing process. During the procedure, the medical team also found progressive thinning of the corneal tissue on the upper to outer side of the right cornea, which occurred as a result of the ongoing inflammatory process.

To address this condition, the ophthalmology specialists performed additional amniotic membrane attachment and temporary suturing of the right eyelid to protect the eye surface and maximise the tissue recovery process.

Meanwhile, the plastic surgery team performed further debridement of dead tissue and skin grafting on the eye, chest, and shoulder areas as part of efforts to accelerate burn wound healing. Further evaluation of the wound condition is planned for Saturday, 28 March 2026.
