National Highway in Manggarai Split Due to Ground Movement
A section of the national highway linking Ruteng and Reo in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), has split across tens of metres. The precise location is at Kilometre 36, Rawuk Village, Riung Village, Cibal District in Manggarai. The fractured pavement, which has subsided to a depth of one metre, has caused the asphalt to collapse.
βThe cause is believed to be ground displacement,β said Cibal Sector Police Chief Iptu Paksedis P Sogen on Monday (9 March 2026).
The road began splitting on Saturday (7 March 2026). The fractured section measures approximately 25 metres in length, 6 metres in width, and around 1 metre in depth.
Paksedis stated that traffic flow remains unobstructed on the highway, which serves as a critical transport route for petroleum products from the Reo Depot. The Manggarai Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) has installed warning signs along the damaged section and has begun repair work on the affected road.
