National Gas Pipeline Network Expands as Cisem II Officially Commences Operations
PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has officially taken over management of the Batang-Cirebon-Kandang Haur Timur (Cisem II) natural gas transmission pipeline, a strategic infrastructure project that strengthens the integration of the national gas network. The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement for the utilisation of the Cisem II pipeline between Pertagas and BBPMGB Lemigas at the Lemigas Forum Building in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026). The agreement was signed by Pertagas President Director Indra P. Sembiring and BBPMGB Lemigas Head M. Halim Sariwardana.
Pertagas was appointed as the operator of Cisem II in April 2026 after winning an open tender held by Lemigas. The company’s experience in managing the Semarang-Batang (Cisem I) section, which is already operational, served as a key qualification for operating this subsequent strategic infrastructure. The appointment coincided with the commencement of operations for the Cisem II pipeline. The 242-kilometre infrastructure completed its commissioning process, which began at the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate in March 2026 and concluded at Kandang Haur Timur between 6 and 9 June 2026.
During the commissioning closing ceremony in Kandang Haur Timur, the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Laode Sulaeman, stated that the operation of Cisem II represents a significant step in strengthening the integration of the national gas pipeline network. He noted that the infrastructure will enhance gas distribution flexibility and reinforce the reliability of energy supply, expressing appreciation for all parties involved in completing the strategic project.
Cisem II connects Batang in Central Java to Kandang Haur Timur in West Java. The pipeline forms part of the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) transmission system and reinforces the connectivity of the national gas network. With this connection, gas distribution from various supply sources is expected to become more flexible. Beyond strengthening system reliability, the network integration is also seen as a means to optimise the use of domestic natural gas for industry, power generation, refineries, and the fertiliser sector.
At the signing ceremony in Jakarta, BBPMGB Lemigas Head M. Halim Sariwardana stated that the collaboration with Pertagas is part of efforts to ensure that government-built gas infrastructure is optimally utilised to support national energy security. He expressed hope that the partnership would maximise the asset’s economic benefits and support energy availability for industry, electricity, and the public.
Pertagas President Director Indra P. Sembiring added that the company’s experience in operating the Semarang-Batang (Cisem I) section is a key asset in optimising the operation of Cisem II and strengthening the integration of the national gas transmission system. He emphasised that the utilisation of Cisem II holds strategic value in enhancing supply reliability and opening broader gas market development opportunities in Java.
Cisem II is part of a National Strategic Project built by the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources using the State Budget. The infrastructure is a crucial link in the development of an integrated national gas pipeline network, expected to strengthen energy supply reliability across various regions of Indonesia. Through the cooperation on Cisem II, Lemigas and Pertagas aim to further strengthen national gas network integration, optimise domestic gas utilisation, and support sustainable industrial, electricity, and economic growth.
