National Food Agency to oversee quality of rice exports to Malaysia to ensure standard compliance
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed it is providing assistance for quality certification and Health Certificates (HC) to support planned rice exports to Malaysia, ensuring compliance with the destination country’s food safety requirements and standards.
Andriko Noto Susanto, Deputy for Consumption Diversification and Food Safety at Bapanas, stated that the agency plays a vital role in ensuring exported rice meets quality and safety standards. Speaking during the 2026 World Food Safety Day commemorations in Jakarta, Andriko noted that the agency handles certification for both premium and medium-grade rice.
He explained that the Health Certificate is a crucial document for export activities, serving as a guarantee that the food products being shipped meet the food safety requirements of the destination country. As the competent food safety authority, Bapanast, alongside central and regional authorities, is obligated to complete all necessary requirements to facilitate the smooth export of food commodities.
Regarding the plan to export 200,000 tonnes of rice to Malaysia, Andriko stated that the sampling and testing processes have been completed, including the fulfilment of the necessary Health Certificate requirements. He emphasised that the authority’s duty is to ensure all exported materials meet the standards of the destination country, specifically regarding quality and grade.
Furthermore, Bulog, alongside a team from the Ministry of Agriculture, plans to visit Sarawak, Malaysia, to discuss the Indonesian rice export plan. The visit aims to finalise the total volume and establish fixed pricing. It has been confirmed that the export price for Indonesian rice to Malaysia will be set above the domestic maximum retail price (HET) to bolster the national economy and improve farmer welfare. This pricing strategy follows the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, intended to ensure that rice exports generate profits for farmers and increase state revenue. The export price is expected to exceed Rp16,000 per kg, whereas the current domestic HET for premium rice ranges from Rp14,900 to Rp15,800 per kilogram, depending on the region.
