National Food Agency strengthens food price stabilisation measures ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026
Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Food Agency (Bapanas) is intensifying various food intervention programmes in partnership with stakeholders to maintain price stability for strategic essential foods during Ramadan and leading up to Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah (Eid 2026).
“The government is ensuring various food intervention programmes continue through Eid to guarantee food availability for the community,” stated I Gusti Ketut Astawa, Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilisation at Bapanas, in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.
He outlined several food intervention programmes conducted throughout Ramadan and leading up to Eid, including the Cheap Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah—GPM), distribution of rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme, and stock mobilisation through the Food Distribution Facilitation (FDP) programme.
In addition to rice and cooking oil assistance reaching 33.2 million beneficiary families nationwide, these supplies have been distributed in stages by Perum Bulog since 9 March 2026. “In line with the direction of Bapanas Head Andi Amran Sulaiman, our national food stocks are secure and adequate,” he stated.
The food intervention programmes are implemented through collaboration between the central government, regional governments, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), regional-owned enterprises (ROEs), and food business associations to provide affordable food access at numerous locations across Indonesia.
Bapanas recorded that GPM implementation nationwide through mid-March reached 789 events across various regions in at least 24 provinces and 153 districts and cities.
The government has also launched a special GPM offering premium-quality frozen chicken at prices aligned with the Government Reference Selling Price (HAP).
This special frozen chicken GPM programme is available at more than 1,200 outlets across 17 provinces and will continue until the day before Eid. The programme is a collaboration between Bapanas and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, and PT Malindo Feedmill Tbk. The public can locate GPM frozen chicken outlets through the link bit.ly/gpmdagingayam2026.
Another special GPM initiative as a measure to stabilise ruminant meat prices has been promoted by Bapanas together with PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) and PT Berdikari.
By mid-March, the realisation of SPHP rice sales had reached 19,500 tonnes. For 2026 SPHP rice, consumers can purchase a maximum of five 5-kilogramme packages, with alternative 2-kilogramme packages available for purchase of a maximum of two packages.
FDP realisation through March totalled 13,916 kilogrammes, comprising 5,590 kilogrammes of red bird’s eye chilli, 5,126 kilogrammes of live cattle, 2,000 kilogrammes of rice, and 1,200 litres of Minyakita cooking oil.
Deficit regions targeted for FDP include Mahakam Ulu District in East Kalimantan, Kramat Jati Central Market in Jakarta, Central and East Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, and the Riau Islands.
Rice and cooking oil assistance distribution had reached 232,076 beneficiary families as of 14 March. Quantitatively, 4.64 million kilogrammes of rice and 928,300 litres of cooking oil have been successfully distributed.
Bapanas projects national rice availability through the end of April will achieve a surplus of 17.2 million tonnes. Maize is also projected to achieve a surplus of 4.8 million tonnes. National cooking oil is projected to achieve a surplus of 3.5 million tonnes.
Chicken meat is projected to achieve a surplus of 727,000 tonnes through April. Consumption sugar is projected to achieve a surplus of 595,000 tonnes. Chicken eggs are projected to achieve a surplus of 349,000 tonnes. Red bird’s eye chilli, large chilli, and shallots are each projected to achieve surpluses of 105,000 tonnes, 74,000 tonnes, and 57,000 tonnes respectively. All nine food commodities are entirely supplied from domestic production.
Previously, Bapanas Head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman reported on food stability conditions to President Prabowo Subianto.
“We reported stocks of 11 strategic commodities are quite good. In fact, very good, especially rice. Everything is secure for the food sector, Mr President,” Amran said in Jakarta on Friday (13 March).
