National Food Agency Discusses Impact of Rupiah Fluctuations on SPHP Rice Prices
National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed it will not increase the ceiling price for SPHP rice amid the rupiah’s weakness. ’ Indeed, changes in the dollar exchange rate can affect various sectors, including food,’ said Bapanas SPHP Director Maino Dwi Hartono in a written statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Although the price will not rise, Maino assured SPHP rice quality remains intact, meeting medium-grade standards. SPHP rice prices are set at Rp 12,500 per kg for consumers in Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi. In Sumatra (excluding Lampung and South Sumatra), East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, the price is Rp 13,100 per kg, while Maluku and Papua are priced at Rp 13,500 per kg. This year’s SPHP programme has a budget of Rp 4.97 trillion, equivalent to a subsidy for the sale of approximately 828,000 tons of rice. Bapanas has also introduced new rules on maximum purchasing quantities for SPHP rice. Consumers may now purchase up to five 5kg packages, an increase from the previous two. The adjustment considers public rice demand. For 2kg packages, purchases are limited to two packets. Bapanas emphasised SPHP rice must not be resold, as it forms part of the subsidy programme.
