National ETLE Face Recognition Strengthens Police Ability to Uncover Street Crime

The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is continuing to develop the use of digital technology through a Face Recognition (FR) system integrated into the national ETLE network. This technology represents a significant breakthrough in supporting police duties, particularly in the process of identifying individuals and uncovering various criminal cases more quickly, accurately, and precisely. With the ability to automatically recognise and match faces, the Face Recognition system can assist officers in identifying individuals recorded by ETLE cameras at various strategic points. The resulting identification can serve as crucial initial information to support investigations or searches for individuals linked to a criminal case. The ETLE camera network, spread across various regions of Indonesia, gives the Face Recognition system extensive surveillance coverage. This integration enables a rapid data matching process, helping police obtain the clues and information needed to solve crimes. Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho stated that the use of Face Recognition in the National ETLE system is part of the National Police’s digital transformation in building a modern, technology-based security system. ‘Face Recognition technology provides a very important additional capability for the police. With the support of a wide camera network, the identification process can be carried out more quickly and accurately, helping officers uncover various criminal cases and supporting efforts to maintain public security,’ said Inspector General Agus. Meanwhile, the Traffic Corps Director of Law Enforcement, Commissioner I Made Agus Prasatya, explained that Face Recognition in the National ETLE system is a form of technological optimisation that provides broad benefits for the police. ‘Face Recognition allows the system to perform automatic facial identification based on available data. This capability greatly assists officers in the process of tracking, identifying, and searching for individuals connected to a criminal event. The wider the integrated camera network, the greater its contribution in supporting the rapid and precise uncovering of criminal cases,’ explained Commissioner Made. The use of Face Recognition in the National ETLE system demonstrates that the police’s technological infrastructure not only functions as a surveillance tool but also forms part of a modern security system capable of supporting investigations and crime solving. Through this technological reinforcement, the National Police continues to strive to improve the effectiveness of its service, protection, and law enforcement to achieve better security for the public.
