Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - A stakeholder of the National Energy Council (DEN), Muhammad Kholting Syeirazi, stated that the national energy security index currently falls into the ‘resilient’ category, with a score of 7.13.

Furthermore, according to Kholid, JP Morgan has ranked Indonesia second out of 52 countries as having the best energy security in the world amidst global geopolitical volatility.

“Indonesia is among the countries resilient to energy shocks when geopolitical situations arise in the Middle East,” said Kholid after serving as a speaker at a National Energy Policy socialisation event at Raja Ali Haji Maritime University (UMRAH) in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands Province, on Wednesday.

Kholid noted that Indonesia possesses abundant energy resources, including coal reserves to maintain the reliability of the domestic electricity supply.

He noted that the issue of fuel supply in Indonesia could become risky if imported oil supplies are limited or unavailable.

Therefore, the DEN continues to push the energy security agenda through the self-sufficiency of owned resources, which are then processed to meet national energy needs, thereby reducing dependence on imports.

“In accordance with mandates, our fuel stocks can last for 23 days, and LPG for 15 days. So far, there have been no stock disruptions; fuel remains secure for transport, as does LPG for households,” he said.

“As a result, the consumption of subsidised fuel has surged. Meanwhile, the quota is only sufficient until the end of the year, which is why shortages are occurring at petrol stations,” Kholid revealed.

His party is also encouraging the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) to be responsive in increasing the subsidised fuel quota to ensure there are no shortages at petrol stations until the end of 2026.

DEN also guarantees that fuel stocks in Pertamina depots and integrated terminals remain secure and sufficient to meet public needs.
