Jakarta — A member of the stakeholder element of the National Energy Council (DEN), Saleh Abdurrahman, has recommended PT Pertamina (Persero) to tighten the distribution of subsidised fuel. This is particularly important amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region.

According to Saleh, this measure is crucial to ensure that energy subsidies are properly targeted whilst safeguarding national energy security amid global dynamics.

“We are asking Pertamina to be stricter in implementing digitalisation using QR Code technology so that fuel subsidies are increasingly well-targeted,” Saleh told CNBC Indonesia on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Nevertheless, Saleh assured that the condition of national energy stocks remains safe. This has also been communicated by the DEN’s daily chairman during a DEN member session some time ago.

“DEN continues to monitor the dynamics of our energy conditions and global developments to anticipate various possibilities for safeguarding our energy security,” he said.

Additionally, the DEN has also urged the public to make greater use of public transport to reduce fuel consumption. He noted that the quality of public transport services also needs to be continuously improved so that the public becomes increasingly comfortable.

“We also continue to urge people to use public transport, and our public transport services should also improve, become safer and more comfortable,” said Saleh.
