Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives Legislation Body (Baleg) has proposed the establishment of an authoritative national data management body in discussions on the Single Data Indonesia (SDI) Bill.

Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan stated that the body is necessary to support the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in preparing development plans accurately through integrated and valid data.

“So, we must first understand that SDI, with its main tool, namely the National Basic Data, is how this data becomes valid through the integration of existing data,” Bob said during the SDI Bill drafting meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that the authoritative body would compile data from various ministries and institutions to produce integrated data that can serve as a reference for national development planning.

The data collection would cover gathering, management, and storage of data. However, data ownership would remain with the relevant ministries and institutions, while the data serves as a reference for the body to be established.

“Well, SDI is under Bappenas. What is produced through accurate, up-to-date, integrated data integration from various accountable institutions that can be accessed and shared,” he said.

“So, there must be physical centralisation of data, whether we like it or not. And this body does not have to form a new institution; it can be handed over to Bappenas, and I agree if it becomes Bappenas’s authority,” said Benny.
