The National Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has arrested an armed robbery gang that seized Rp800 million in the Tulang Bawang Barat area of Lampung.

Head of Unit III of the Bareskrim Mobile Brigade (Satresmob), Senior Commissioner Reinhard H. Nainggolan, said a total of five perpetrators were successfully apprehended by a joint team together with Lampung Provincial Police and Tulang Bawang Barat District Police.

“The Bareskrim Mobile Brigade, together with the Lampung Provincial Mobile Brigade and Tulang Bawang Barat District Police, were able to crack this case swiftly and comprehensively,” he said in a written statement on Saturday (21 February).

Reinhard explained that the robbery took place on Monday (19 January) at approximately 09:00 Western Indonesian Time and had caused a stir on social media.

He explained that the incident began when a truck belonging to a distributor’s shop was carrying Rp800 million to be deposited at a bank.

Upon arriving at the location, two perpetrators riding a motorcycle immediately boxed in the truck and fired a weapon, with bullets penetrating through the windscreen.

“At approximately 09:00 Western Indonesian Time, three gunshots were heard on Jalan Sudirman, Tiyuh Daya Asri, Tumijajar, Tulang Bawang Barat, Lampung,” he explained.

As a result of the shooting, the victims — the truck driver and his assistant — were forced to stop the vehicle. At that point, the two perpetrators immediately seized the money from inside the truck and fled the scene.

The following day, investigators managed to locate the Yamaha Vixion motorcycle used by the two robbers to carry out the heist.

“The motorcycle was found discarded beneath the Lampung-Palembang toll road. The team also recovered other evidence including CCTV footage and other items that could shed light on the violent robbery,” he said.

Subsequently, Reinhard said investigators conducted further development of the case and arrested the five members of the robbery gang, each with different roles.

The five suspects are identified by their initials AY, J, T, Y, and D. AY acted as the mastermind behind the robbery and was responsible for preparing a Grand Max vehicle to transport the Yamaha Vixion motorcycle used in the heist.

Suspect J served as the motorcycle rider during the operation. The third suspect, T, acted as the shooter.

Meanwhile, suspect Y served as a lookout using a Honda Revo motorcycle that had been prepared by suspect D, who also acted as a lookout during the robbery.

“All five suspects are currently in detention for further legal proceedings,” he concluded.
