National Children's Day: LRT Jabodebek Turns Public Transport into a Learning Space for Children with Disabilities

In commemoration of National Children’s Day 2026, themed ‘Love Children, Protect and Build the Future’, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) invited 50 students with disabilities and their companions on an educational trip using the LRT Jabodebek from Halim Station to Jatimulya Station on Thursday (23/7). The students came from several special needs schools (SLB) in Jakarta, including SLB Negeri 11 Jakarta, SLB Negeri 3 Jakarta, SLB B Sekolah Pangudi Luhur, and SLB Santi Rama Fatmawati Jakarta. This activity is part of LRT Jabodebek’s efforts to introduce public transport from an early age while ensuring that every child, including those with disabilities, has equal opportunities to learn and gain experience using safe and comfortable public transport. During the journey, participants were introduced to the procedures for using the LRT Jabodebek, various service facilities, and safety education. The event also featured a dental health session led by drg. Ambar Puspitasari, Sp.KGA, a paediatric dentistry specialist from the LRT Jabodebek Health Team, and was made interactive through various educational activities with attractive prizes held in the Auditorium of the LRT Jabodebek office. Executive Vice President of the LRT Jabodebek Division, Suryawan Putra Hia, stated that National Children’s Day is a momentum to broaden learning access for all children through direct experience using public transport. ‘Public transport is not just a means of moving from one place to another, but can also be a learning space. They can learn about time discipline, safety, caring for others, and the importance of using public transport,’ he said. He added that early education about public transport is important because it not only builds the habit of using mass transit modes but also instils a culture of discipline, compliance with rules, concern for other users, and awareness of the importance of safety during travel. ‘Through the National Children’s Day theme, we want every child to have the same opportunity to learn to use public transport. This experience is expected to shape a generation that is more independent, disciplined, safety-conscious, and accustomed to using mass transport as part of daily mobility, ultimately realising a successful, safe, and happy journey,’ he added. Through various educational programmes, LRT Jabodebek aims to make public transport an open learning space for the entire community. Moreover, LRT Jabodebek is currently the most advanced railway transport in Indonesia, using Communication Based Train Control technology with a grade of automation (GoA) level 3 certification. By understanding how to use mass transport from an early age, it is hoped that more young people will grow up with a culture of discipline, safety awareness, and a habit of choosing safe and environmentally friendly modes of transport.
