National car

National car

From Media Indonesia

The plan to manufacture cheap national cars here seems to be
having a worldwide impact, particularly in countries with
automotive industries like Japan and the United States. What
steps will Indonesia take now that the national car policy has
been issued? In my opinion, the only thing we people should do is
give full support and, if possible, be directly involved in the
manufacturing of the cars. This is the right moment for the
Indonesian people to lift the dignity and international image of
the nation.

Why should we be fussy about things like beauty contests and
things which have no added value? My colleagues and I have been
and still are working for a foreign company which has a long
history in the car industry. I know for sure that the concept of
technology transfer is still lip service and only found in books
and lecture rooms. Many of these car companies have transferred
out-dated technology just to deceive the ignorant masses. Through
careful analysis we can see that we have been cheated.

As for the national car policy in reality, we should recall
the management maxim which states that: A sound decision is
futile if it is not implemented.
