National Batik Day Commemoration: Kowani Hosts Golden Memory – Batik
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Women’s Congress (Kowani) has organised the ‘Golden Memory - Batik: Traces of the Mother Nation’s Love’ event to commemorate National Batik Day 2026.
“Kowani is holding the Golden Memory - Batik: Traces of the Mother Nation’s Love event as a form of respect for batik as Indonesia’s cultural heritage, as well as a symbol of unity, national identity, and the long journey of Indonesian women in building civilisation,” said the General Chairwoman of Kowani, Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto, in Jakarta on Friday.
The event carries the theme “Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Generations.”
Through this theme, Kowani invites all elements of the nation to continue preserving batik as a living cultural heritage, strengthening national character, and inspiring future generations through the noble values contained within every motif of Indonesian batik.
Through this activity, Kowani reaffirms its commitment to continuously strengthening the preservation of batik as part of the national identity, while simultaneously encouraging women’s empowerment, the development of the creative economy, and the passing down of cultural values to future generations.
“For Kowani, batik is not merely traditional cloth, but a cultural document that records the nation’s historical journey, Indonesia’s diversity, and the contribution of women in maintaining national identity. Every batik motif holds a story, philosophy, and local wisdom that forms part of Indonesia’s collective memory,” said Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto.
She expressed hope that batik would not only be a source of national pride but also serve as a medium for Indonesian cultural diplomacy on the international stage, capable of strengthening brotherhood, reinforcing national identity, and inspiring the world.
