JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto congratulated National Awakening Day after delivering the Macroeconomic Framework and Key Assumptions of Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) 2027 to the House of Representatives in Jakarta.

“Happy National Awakening Day,” Prabowo said at the end of his speech in the Plenary Session of the DPR, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May 2026).

Prabowo urged every segment of the nation to continue the efforts of Indonesia’s founding fathers. “Let us continue the struggle of our founding fathers. Freedom!” he shouted.

Specifically, he asked for time to present directly the Kerangka KEM PPKF RAPBN 2027.

“I deliberately asked for time to stand before you all. To directly present the direction of our economic and fiscal policy,” he said.

In his speech, Prabowo targeted Indonesia’s economic growth in 2027 to be in the range of 5.8 to 6.5 percent.

“With the right economic strategy and prudent, sustainable fiscal policy, I am confident Indonesia’s economy can grow within the 5.8 to 6.5 percent range in 2027, moving towards an 8 percent growth rate in 2029,” Prabowo said.

Therefore, he argued that the inequality between the rich and the poor must not widen further and should be narrowed.

“The gap between the wealthiest and the poorest must not widen further; we must continue to strive to narrow it,” he said.

To that end, he targeted Indonesia’s Gini ratio to be between 0.362 and 0.367 by 2027, an improvement from the previous target of 0.377 to 0.389.

The Head of State also targeted reductions in poverty and open unemployment.

“Poverty is targeted to fall to the 6.0 to 6.5 percent range from the previous target of 6.5 to 7.5,” he said.
