JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has sent a team from the Ministry of Human Rights following the incident of an attack on the Dogiyai Police Resort in Central Papua on Tuesday night (31/3/2026).

“The ministry’s team has been in the field since yesterday,” Natalius Pigai told Kompas.com on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Pigai stated that the team is holding meetings with the community, victims, tribal heads, church parties, and the Regional Leadership Consultation (Muspida) in Dogiyai.

“We are awaiting the report from the team and I will convey it later,” Pigai said.

Previously, the Dogiyai Police Resort headquarters in Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua, was attacked by residents on Tuesday night (31/3/2026).

The situation became heated during the attack carried out by a group of people using traditional sharp weapons in the form of arrows aimed at the police station.

Deputy Chief of Dogiyai Police Resort AKP Ngarifin said that several arrows were found embedded in the roof of the police station.

Fortunately, the situation could be controlled and has begun to stabilise.

“The attack on the headquarters (police station) last night. The headquarters roof is full of arrows embedded. Meanwhile, a building materials shop not far from Dogiyai Police Resort was also burned,” he said when confirmed by telephone on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Although the situation is now starting to stabilise, the police have not yet been able to confirm the number of fatalities.

When found, the victim was already lying in a ditch in front of the church with stab wounds to the neck and hand.

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately evacuated the victim to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Currently, the police are still investigating the identity and motives of the perpetrators in carrying out the murder.

“Currently, security forces are taking anticipatory measures by increasing patrols and backups,” he said.
