NasDem Party Deputy Chairman Saan Mustopa explained the considerations behind his party faction's decision to once again nominate Ahmad Sahroni as Deputy Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives. He said Sahroni possesses experience in the commission responsible for legal affairs.

"Sahroni served two terms as a Commission III leader," said the Deputy House Speaker when met at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Sahroni was first entrusted with the role of Deputy Chair of Commission III from the 2019 term, continuing into the 2024 term before being transferred to Commission I following his controversial remarks. NasDem, Saan said, considers that Sahroni's experience gives him adequate capability to lead Commission III once more.

Ahmad Sahroni was officially reinstated as Deputy Chair of Commission III, replacing Rusdi Masse, on Thursday, 19 February 2026. Rusdi Masse had switched allegiance to the Indonesian Solidarity Party.

House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said Sahroni's appointment was based on a letter from the NasDem Party faction leadership, numbered FNasdem107/DPR RI/ii/2026, dated 12 February 2026, regarding the replacement of the Commission III deputy chair.

"Ahmad Sahroni will be appointed as Deputy Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives, replacing Rusdi Masse," Dasco said during a plenary session in the Commission III hearing room at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

In addition to Dasco, the plenary session was also attended by Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman and deputy chairs Dede Indra Permana and Sari Yuliati. Dasco then asked whether the forum could approve Sahroni's new appointment.

"As chair of this session, I would like to ask Commission III members whether Ahmad Sahroni can be approved for appointment as Deputy Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives?" said the Gerindra Party politician.

Commission III members present then gave their approval, followed by the strike of the session chair's gavel. After being sworn in, Sahroni shared his impressions on returning to Senayan.

During his second term on Commission III, Sahroni had been suspended by his party over remarks deemed offensive and hurtful to public sentiment during the August 2025 demonstrations. He was also transferred to Commission I. For those remarks, Sahroni received a six-month suspension as an ethics sanction from the House Ethics Court.
