NasDem Unfazed by Jokowi's 'Big Target' for PSI
The 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has hinted at ambitious targets for the PSI party in the 2029 General Election while providing guidance to PSI cadres during the Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda) of the PSI DPD in Bandar Lampung City. The Chairperson of the NasDem Party Central Executive Board, Irma Suryani Chaniago, responded calmly to Jokowi’s political safari and the targets set for PSI.
“For NasDem, it is fine if a non-parliamentary party has aspirations to enter parliament, and this will not make NasDem anxious,” said Irma when contacted on Monday (26/06/2026).
Irma stated that NasDem respects the political rights held by both Jokowi and PSI. She noted that NasDem is a mature political party.
“As a party already within the top four, God willing, NasDem is mature in politics,” she said.
According to Irma, there is no specific response regarding the commencement of Jokowi’s agenda to support PSI in various regions. She mentioned that the NasDem party machinery continues to operate normally.
“The party machinery continues to run through political activities such as the ‘Laga Perubahan’, ‘Remaja Bernegara’, and ‘Akademi Bela Negara’; why should there be a response?” Irma remarked.
Jokowi’s Ambitious Targets for PSI in 2029
As is known, Jokowi provided guidance to PSI cadres during the Regional Working Meeting of the PSI DPD Bandar Lampung City. Jokowi stated that PSI’s target for the 2029 General Election is more than just securing seats in the Senayan (Parliament).
“I have come, and I do not wish to dwell on this for too long. The party structure must be a living and working structure. If we truly do this and implement it in the field, our target is not a small one,” said Jokowi, as reported by detikSumbagsel on Saturday (27/06).
According to him, PSI’s primary target is not merely to pass the parliamentary threshold. However, he was reluctant to openly disclose the exact scale of the target, as it remains an internal party strategy.
“It is not just about entering Senayan; entering Senayan is, God willing, achievable. I want to enter Senayan, but the number we are targeting is not a small number. I do not need to mention it here, as this is internal, right? There are many external parties present in this room. The target is a large target,” he stated.
