The NasDem Party wants the legislative election (pileg) and the presidential election (pilpres) to be held separately during the 2029 General Election.

“NasDem indeed wants the legislative and presidential elections to be separated. So, the legislative election first, then the presidential election,” said NasDem Deputy Chairperson Saan Mustopa at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10).

Saan also mentioned that although this issue is still a discourse, there are other parties that also appear to agree with holding the legislative and presidential elections separately.

“Secondly, there are parties such as Golkar, and others are the same,” he said.

Saan stated that the discourse regarding the separate holding of legislative and presidential elections has entered the discussions of the Working Committee (Panja) formed by Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). He noted that this working committee is tasked with drafting the Election Bill.

“Later, in the Working Committee, it will certainly be discussed and brought together with the proposals from each party regarding what the electoral design should look like,” he added.

Previously, there were proposals to hold the legislative and presidential elections separately following the 2024 General Election, which were held concurrently.

This was proposed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party and Member of Commission II of the DPR, Ahmad Doli Kurnia.

“We have indeed proposed from the beginning that the three types of elections we have—legislative, presidential, and regional elections (pilkada)—should be held separately, without being unified,” said Doli in his statement on Tuesday (22/9).
