NasDem Deputy Chair of Commission IX in the DPR, Irma Suryani Chaniago, believes that work from home (WFH) in the private sector can reduce fuel (BBM) consumption. Irma stated that WFH in the private sector could be implemented on Fridays.

“In my view, this strategy is quite good for curbing fuel usage,” Irma told reporters on Thursday (2/4/2026).

“For private sector WFH, Fridays could be chosen. This day is significant for factory employees whose working hours are typically shortened by Friday prayers, benefiting both workers and the company,” she added.

Nevertheless, Irma assessed that the policy would not have a significant impact on efforts to reduce the state budget deficit (APBN). Irma proposed that the government carry out efficiencies on the expenditure side, particularly by cutting projects deemed non-urgent.

“If it’s to reduce the APBN deficit, I suggest taking it from ambitious projects that are not urgent so that the impact is significant in reducing the deficit,” she said.

Furthermore, Irma stated that efficiencies have already been implemented within the DPR environment. She also proposed scheduling commission meetings on a specific single day.

“The DPR has also carried out efficiencies, and I propose that commission meetings be held simultaneously on a certain day because the building’s air conditioning is centralised, so coordinating meeting schedules together can significantly reduce fuel usage for AC and electricity,” she explained.

Labour Minister Encourages Private Sector WFH One Day Per Week

Previously, the government has decided on a work-from-home scheme for private sector employees. The government encourages companies to provide WFH for one day per week.

“It is encouraged to implement WFH for workers or labourers for one working day in a week according to the company’s conditions, and the WFH working hours are regulated by the company,” said Minister of Manpower Yassierli in a press conference.

Yassierli stated that the encouragement for WFH in the private sector also does not reduce annual leave and monthly salaries. The technical implementation of WFH for private sector employees will be the authority of each company.

“The implementation of WFH does not reduce annual leave,” he said.
