We were deeply shocked by this sad news, as on Thursday evening (9 July) we were still in contact with him and reporting on various matters.
Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Rachmat Gobel, a prominent figure from Gorontalo, passed away on Friday (10 July 2026) at around 04:00 WIB in Jakarta.
Rachmat Gobel was widely known to the public, particularly in Gorontalo Province, as a successful businessman and politician from the Nasdem Party.
He had only recently been installed as Chairman of the Provincial Leadership Council (DPW) of the Nasdem Party in Gorontalo Province for the 2025 to 2030 term.
Roni Imran, an official of the Nasdem Provincial Leadership Council in Gorontalo, said he was stunned by Rachmat Gobel’s passing.
“We were deeply shocked by this sad news, because on Thursday (9 July) evening we were still able to communicate with him and report on various matters,” said Roni, who serves as Coordinator of the Electoral Victory Division of Nasdem’s Gorontalo DPW.
“I communicated with him quite frequently, both in person and by telephone. Just last night we were still in contact. There were no signs that he would pass away,” said Roni, who said he was at the family home in Jakarta.
He expressed profound condolences over Rachmat Gobel’s death, and also recited the Yasin chapter beside Rachmat Gobel’s remains at the family home in Jakarta.
Rachmat Gobel served as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024 to 2029 term, representing the Gorontalo Province electoral district under the Nasdem Party.
In the current term, Rachmat served as Deputy Chairman of Commission VI and the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body.
Rachmat Gobel is survived by his wife, Retno Damayanti, and two children.
Rosdian, a resident of Limboto in Gorontalo Regency, said he was deeply saddened by the news.
“We (the public) had only just been enjoying his works in Limboto. Such as developing Pentadio Resort Park, and beautifying Pakaya Tower with numerous lanterns that made the tower look even more magnificent. I am truly heartbroken by his passing,” said Rosdian.
He said he was unable to contain his grief over the loss of the Gorontalo figure.
“We hope he will be buried in Gorontalo. He was a son of the region who contributed greatly to building Gorontalo,” said Rosdian.
