NasDem Legislator Distributes Generators to Poultry Farmers Affected by Power Outages in Central Kalimantan

Rolling power outages affecting several areas in Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan have begun to directly impact the operations of MSMEs, particularly local poultry farmers. In response to the potential economic losses, Andina Thresia Narang, a member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) representing the Central Kalimantan constituency, has distributed generator set (genset) units to help sustain local farming businesses.

The NasDem legislator explained that electricity supply in poultry farms is vital for operating ventilation fans and lighting to maintain air temperature and livestock productivity. “Power outages not only hinder business activities but can also lead to significant losses for farmers. I hope this generator assistance can serve as a solution to ensure businesses continue to operate and productivity is maintained,” said Andina on Sunday (2/8/2026).

Separately, PT PLN (Persero) confirmed that the limited electricity supply in the Central and South Kalimantan region was triggered by technical disturbances at the Asam-Asam coal-fired power plant generator, as well as boiler and turbine pipe leaks at two units owned by Independent Power Producers (IPP). The General Manager of PLN’s Central and South Kalimantan Distribution Unit, Iwan Soelistijono, stated that technical teams have been deployed to accelerate repairs to return the Kalimantan Interconnection System to normal.

PLN aims for the electricity supply in the region to recover gradually during the first week of August 2026, following the completion of power plant testing. “Together with the plant operators, PLN is deploying its best personnel and strengthening technical coordination to ensure the electricity supply in Central Kalimantan can return to optimal levels. We target the system to begin recovering in the first week of August 2026,” explained Iwan. During the repair process, PLN is implementing a measured load management scheme to prevent wider disruptions to the interconnection system. PLN has urged the public in the region to use electricity wisely, particularly during peak hours between 18:00 and 21:00 WITA, to help maintain energy supply stability until all power units are fully operational.
