Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Cindy Monica, has expressed full support for the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) of the National Police in thoroughly investigating alleged corruption in coal governance. She cautioned against any intervention in the case.

Cindy initially emphasised that the investigation is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to making corruption eradication a government priority. This commitment must be realised through independent, objective, and fair law enforcement against anyone involved.

“Corruption in the energy sector not only harms the state but also directly impacts the public. Therefore, the National Police’s move to thoroughly open this case must be supported so that those responsible can be revealed in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” Cindy Monica said in her statement on Friday (10/7/2026).

As a member of Commission I of the DPR RI, which oversees defence, Cindy also reminded of the importance of every state institution carrying out its main duties and functions according to the mandate of laws and regulations. According to her, the law enforcement process must be fully entrusted to the authorised apparatus, while other institutions continue to perform their respective constitutional roles and duties to maintain national stability.

“Let no party protect anyone in the investigation of this case. Anyone proven to be involved must be dealt with according to the applicable law, and anyone obstructing law enforcement must also be held accountable. The rule of law must be paramount,” she asserted.

She assessed that the alleged corruption in coal governance must be taken seriously because it impacts the public interest, including energy supply in several regions of Sumatra. Therefore, she said, law enforcement officers must be given room to work.

“The state must ensure that every alleged criminal act of corruption is investigated to the end. Fair law enforcement will strengthen public trust while proving that there is no room for corrupt practices in Indonesia,” Cindy stated.

As is known, the police are currently carrying out a series of law enforcement actions related to several cases. One of them is a search of a cafe in Cipete related to several cases, including the alleged coal corruption that caused blackouts in the Sumatra region.

The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budhi Hermanto, said the search was conducted jointly with the National Police’s Kortas Tipikor. The case is a matter of attention for President Prabowo Subianto.

“This is related to the alleged corruption of the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. This is the President’s attention for alleged corruption cases to be a focus for the Police to conduct disclosure and investigation processes,” Budhi said in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).

The Head of the National Police’s Kortas Tipikor, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, mentioned that this case is being handled jointly, or as a joint investigation, with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. He said these cases are related to alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered blackouts, the ASABRI case, and the debt settlement case of PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel.

“Currently, the National Police’s Kortas is carrying out a joint investigation scheme with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police in handling corruption and money laundering cases in the legal handling process of the PLN BB case, then the ASABRI case from 2020 to 2025, and the alleged corruption case in the debt settlement process of PT CBS to PT KNI from 2020-2025,” he said.

The Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Victor Dean Mackbon, then provided an explanation regarding the two objects of the case. He said the search was related to alleged corruption and money laundering in the legal handling process by individual state officials or state administrators in the PT ASABRI and Jiwasraya cases.

“The first is the alleged criminal act of corruption and or money laundering in the legal handling process by individual civil servants or state administrators in the PT ASABRI (Persero) and or Jiwasraya Insurance case that occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police in the period from 2020 to 2025,” he said.
