Nasdem Deputy Chairman Says No Discussions Yet on Merger with Gerindra
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Chairman of the Nasdem Party, Saan Mustopa, has affirmed that there have been no discussions regarding the idea of a merger or amalgamation between the Nasdem Party and the Gerindra Party within his party’s internal circles.
“There have been no more in-depth talks. We are now focusing on internal party consolidation,” Saan said when met at the DPR RI Building on Monday (13/4/2026).
Saan explained that Nasdem is currently intensifying organisational consolidation, from the central level to the regions.
This focus includes strengthening the party structure down to the grassroots level.
“So, regarding the merger idea, it has not become a topic of more in-depth discussion internally,” he added.
Nevertheless, Saan views the merger issue as a normal aspect of political dynamics.
However, he cautioned that realising a party merger is no easy feat.
“As an idea or concept, it’s quite ordinary. But when it comes to implementation, many things need to be considered,” he stated.
This is because realising a merger is not straightforward, as it must take into account many fundamental aspects of political parties.
“When it comes to making it happen, many things need to be considered. Regarding ideology, identity, and the existence of each party,” said Saan.
According to Saan, every political party is built on the idealism, ideas, and ideology of its founders, so uniting two parties cannot be done simply.
“A party is a reflection of the idealism, ideas, and even ideology of its founders. It’s not easy to merge them,” he said.
It was previously reported that Chairman of DPR RI Commission XIII, Willy Aditya, jokingly mentioned that the Nasdem Party and the Gerindra Party would merge or join together.
