NasDem Deems No Need for Political Party Cadre Training Oversight Body
NasDem Deputy Chair of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ujang Bey, has responded to the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) proposal regarding an oversight body for political party cadre training. Ujang views cadre training as a fundamental aspect within the party structure that must be strengthened internally.
“In an organisation, regeneration is a necessity, especially for political parties, one of whose functions is clearly political recruitment (cadre training) and political education,” Ujang told reporters on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
“So, if a party wants to develop and win elections, it must carry out cadre training well so that it can be accepted by society,” he added.
He cited his own party’s Akademi Bela Negara (ABN) programme, which serves as a cadre training facility. Through this programme, cadres are equipped with an understanding of national life and party involvement.
“Perhaps in the future, there should also be cooperation with the KPK to provide training related to early prevention of criminal corruption acts, so that cadres can understand the rules well. This means the KPK must also be proactive in maximising its preventive function,” he stated.
Therefore, he believes there is no need to establish a political party cadre training oversight body. In his view, the main strength lies in the quality of cadres built through internal cadre training processes.
“So, in my opinion, there is no need for a cadre training oversight body at all. The principle is, if you want to win elections, then carry out cadre training well, because the strength of the party lies in cadre training. If the cadres are good (of integrity), society will certainly choose or like that party,” he explained.
Previously, the KPK proposed the formation of an oversight body for political party cadre training. The body aims to suppress political donation practices that serve as an entry point for corruption by officials.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that in a study conducted by the Monitoring Directorate in 2025, one of the highlighted issues was the absence of an integrated roadmap for political education between the government and political parties. The KPK assesses that the weakness in integration between recruitment processes and party cadre training systems is also one of the triggers for political donation practices.
“The unavailability of a special oversight body in the cadre training process, political education, and party financial management increases the risk of deviations,” Budi told reporters on Saturday (25/4).
Budi said that oversight of cadre training is closely related to the process of every candidate from political parties facing elections. The KPK views that the high costs in facing elections often become the initial gateway to corruption, hence the need for oversight of political party cadre training.
