NasDem Party Secretary-General Hermawi Taslim has emphasised that his party remains consistent in pushing for a parliamentary threshold of 7%. Nevertheless, NasDem has opened the door for discussions with other political parties to determine a mutually agreed-upon figure.

Hermawi stated that this stance has been NasDem’s position since the party participated in the 2014 national elections. According to him, the 7 per cent figure is not a new position emerging from the current discourse on changing the parliamentary threshold.

“As NasDem has stated several times in the media, since our initial entry into national politics in the 2014 election, NasDem has been consistent with a 7 per cent parliamentary threshold,” said Hermawi.

While maintaining this figure, Hermawi emphasised that discussions regarding the parliamentary threshold must involve other parties. He noted that NasDem is not closing itself off to the process of dialogue to find common ground.

“Everything must still be discussed with other parties so that a single agreed-upon figure can be reached,” he added.

According to Hermawi, NasDem is prepared to continue talks with other political parties regarding the size of the parliamentary threshold. Thus, while NasDem’s current stance remains at 7 per cent, the final decision on the figure to be used remains open for collective discussion.

“NasDem is ready to continue discussing with fellow parties to reach an agreement,” concluded Hermawi.

This comes in response to statements from Gerindra Party Secretary-General Sugiono, who revealed that coalition parties supporting President Prabowo Subianto have agreed on a 5 per cent figure. Meanwhile, PDI Perjuangan DPP Chairman Komarudin Watubun suggested that a 5 per cent parliamentary threshold could be one of the ideal options in the discussion of the General Election Law revision.

Furthermore, the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PDIP Faction, Aria Bima, stated that discussions on the parliamentary threshold should be based on the effectiveness of faction work within the DPR. The revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections should serve as a momentum to present an election system that is fairer, more democratic, and respects every citizen’s vote.

PPP Chairman Muhamad Mardiono has proposed lowering the parliamentary threshold to 2 or 3 per cent to ensure transparent and accountable democracy, arguing that the threshold must accommodate the voices of all citizens. Additionally, the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Dede Yusuf, revealed that party chairmen have begun discussing the revision of the Election Law, including proposals for a 4-5 per cent parliamentary threshold.
