President Prabowo Subianto has committed to strengthening the judiciary through improved welfare so that judges can serve as the last bastion for the public. The NasDem Party has applauded Prabowo’s move.

NasDem Party treasurer Ahmad Sahroni welcomed Prabowo’s efforts to strengthen the judiciary by increasing judges’ incomes in Indonesia. In his view, judges are indeed the spearhead of upholding justice.

“Regarding the president’s speech earlier, particularly concerning the salary increase for judges, I want to emphasise that we in the NasDem Party greatly appreciate President Prabowo’s move to raise judges’ salaries for their welfare. This is a very appropriate policy, because judges are the spearhead of the judiciary and law enforcement,” Sahroni told reporters at the DPR, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).

The deputy chairman of House Commission III expressed hope that judges will firmly uphold integrity because Prabowo has worked hard to secure their welfare. He hopes judges can no longer be swayed.

“And because salaries are now high, judges should firmly uphold integrity because President Prabowo has worked hard to secure judges’ welfare. So that judges do not ‘waver’ left or right,” he said.

Furthermore, Sahroni wants judges’ welfare to have a positive impact on the quality of the judiciary in Indonesia. In that way, he said, judges will be completely free from any form of abuse.

“The welfare that has been pursued must be accompanied by high integrity. There must be no economic temptation or anything else that becomes a loophole for abuse of authority. The hope is that with prosperous judges, our judicial system will become more objective, professional and full of integrity,” Sahroni said.

President Prabowo Subianto said the supremacy of law and justice must be felt by all the people. Prabowo said the judiciary must be strengthened because judges are the last bastion for the public in obtaining justice.

He made the remarks in a speech at the 2026 MPR Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR-DPD at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026). Initially, Prabowo said the government had succeeded in raising judges’ remuneration.

“The government has succeeded in raising judges’ remuneration. For the most junior judges, their income has risen by 280 percent. The highest in several decades. Now the income of our judges, especially junior ones, is above the ASEAN average,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo said the income of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is now higher than that of the Chief Justice of Singapore. Prabowo said the information was conveyed directly to him by the Chief Justice.

“In fact, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has reported to me that the income of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia is now higher than the income of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He reported it to me himself,” he said.

Prabowo said the government will continue to strengthen the judiciary. According to him, the strengthening is important because judges are the last bastion for the public in obtaining justice.

“We must strengthen our judiciary. We must strengthen judicial institutions. Because the judges of our courts are the last bastion of justice,” he said.

“They are the last bastion where the people demand and hope to obtain justice,” he continued.
