Nasaruddin Umar: 2026 Nuzulul Quran Commemoration to be Held at the State Palace

Indonesian Muslims are preparing to mark Nuzulul Quran 1447 Hijri, which falls in the first week of March 2026. The occasion marks the revelation of the first verses of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and is among the holiest moments during Ramadan. According to the official calendar of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia, 1 Ramadan 1447 H falls on Thursday, 19 February 2026. Based on this, 17 Ramadan 1447 H, or Nuzulul Quran, will be observed on Saturday, 7 March 2026. The commemoration itself has already begun on Friday evening after Maghrib time.

However, there is a difference with Muhammadiyah followers who began fasting one day earlier on 18 February 2026. For Muhammadiyah, Nuzulul Quran night falls on Thursday night (5/3) and is observed throughout Friday (6/3). This difference arises from Muhammadiyah’s use of the Hisab Hakiki Wujudul Hilal method, while the Government uses MABIMS criteria through the isbat session.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar confirmed that the national Nuzulul Quran 2026 commemoration will be held at the State Palace, Jakarta. The decision was taken after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.

‘Inshallah the upcoming Nuzulul Quran is planned to be held at the State Palace. The President has decided on that location after considering several options,’ said Minister Nasaruddin at the Presidential Palace Complex.
