Narratives circulating within the US military claim that war with Iran is Jesus’s route back to Earth, leading to Armageddon
US commanders across all service branches have told their units that a war in Iran is ‘sanctified’ by Jesus and will bring about Jesus’s return to Earth as part of Armageddon. The narrative has drawn complaints from soldiers.
Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), a group dedicated to ensuring that all members of the US military are guaranteed freedom of religion, told Middle East Eye on Tuesday that they have received more than 200 similar complaints from personnel serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Space Force.
Complaints received by MRFF, first reported by journalist Jonathan Larsen, come from more than 40 units and cover at least 30 military installations.
According to MRFF, a combat unit commander told a non-commissioned officer (NCO) in a briefing on Monday that the Israel-US strike on Iran is part of God’s ‘plan’ and that US President Donald Trump is blessed by Jesus to light the ‘signal fire’ in Iran to cause Armageddon and herald Jesus’s return to Earth.
A US sergeant who wrote to MRFF said that their commander has told them that war with Iran is part of God’s divine plan.
The commander repeatedly referred to the Book of Revelation in the Bible and Armageddon, the tale of the battle between good and evil, in which Jesus wins and establishes eternal peace on Earth.
The sergeant quoted the commander as saying: “President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the ‘signal fire’ in Iran to cause Armageddon and herald His return to Earth.”
“He smiled broadly when saying all this, which made his message seem even crazier,” the sergeant wrote in the complaint.
“Our commander may be portrayed as a ‘First Christian’ advocate. He has been like this for a long time and makes clear that he wants all under him to be like him as a Christian.”
