REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEL AVIV – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Israel for a diplomatic visit, warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two-day visit, from Wednesday to Thursday, focuses on strengthening cooperation in security, economy, and technology, marking a further alignment of policies between New Delhi and Tel Aviv.

According to Associated Press reports, Modi’s agenda includes meetings with Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, a speech to the Knesset (Israeli parliament), and the signing of several cooperation agreements. Data shows that bilateral trade between India and Israel has reached $3.62 billion in the fiscal year 2025.

In his speech to the Israeli parliament, Prime Minister Modi stated that India and Israel are “trusted partners” and that their relationship is vital for trade and security. He also expressed sympathy for the October 7, 2023 attacks and reaffirmed India’s strong stance against terrorism.

“There is no justification for terrorism,” Modi said, as quoted by Reuters. Netanyahu, on the other hand, praised India as an extraordinary ally that has remained steadfastly by Israel’s side.

However, the visit has drawn sharp criticism due to its timing amidst Israel’s military operation in Gaza, which has claimed hundreds of thousands of Palestinian lives. Observers believe that Modi’s presence provides diplomatic support to Israel, which is currently facing international condemnation over alleged war crimes and genocide.
