Narcotics and drug abuse
Narcotics and drug abuse
From Forum Keadilan
I was overwhelmed by sadness and a feeling of deep concern
when I read an article about intensified use of narcotics and
drug abuse in Indonesia in Forum Keadilan No. 19/VIII. I was then
reminded of an inscription found on "KMB Bus Hong Kong," reading
"Talk to your children about drugs before somebody else does."
Personally I am very sad. I now have one dependent -- my
younger brother. I have to write here that my parents are not
very good at monitoring the development of their children. They
just believe that their children are good. They know that their
children are better educated and them. Our parents are concerned
only with hoes, scythes and rice fields. When I was still at
school, I was completely "free".
In my case, once I almost fell into the use of narcotics and
drug abuse. Fortunately, God still loved me and angels still kept
guard of me. When I was at a vocational school I often saw and
got hold of nipam drugs because of the influence of friends.
Luckily I did not take any because I could not swallow tablets.
Media reports about rampant use of narcotics and drug abuse in
Indonesia at present have left me with a great worry. I'm worried
about my younger brother, Riyan, who is now far from me and is
still a second grader in a senior secondary school far from our
house. Although I believe that my brother is a good boy, I cannot
help feeling worried considering that our parents are relatively
quite permissive.
I raise my hats to those fighting against narcotics and drug
abuse like Mr. Henry Yosodiningrat. I fully support their fight
against narcotics and drug abuse. I am only a female Indonesian
migrant worker but I really want to make my younger brother a
person useful to his family, his religion, his people and his
country. I really cannot let narcotics and drug abuse destroy our
young generation.
May God open the hearts of those who have slipped into the use
of narcotics and drug abuse so that they may realize the danger
posed by these practices.
