Nanik Steps Down as BGN Head Citing Health, Remains Pertamina Commissioner

Nanik S Deyang has officially resigned from her position as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) due to health reasons. The decision was made after she experienced a heart condition and planned to undergo further medical treatment abroad. She announced her resignation via her personal Facebook account on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, stating she had informed President Prabowo Subianto directly. “I told the President that I must resign as Head of BGN for the sake of my health,” she wrote. President Prabowo reportedly accepted her decision out of concern for her condition, though he asked her to continue overseeing the BGN. Nanik described the decision to leave the post, which she had held since her inauguration on 8 June 2026, as difficult. She departed for medical treatment abroad the same day, clarifying that the trip was to seek a second medical opinion, not due to a lack of trust in Indonesian doctors. She revealed that a medical examination showed a blockage in her heart artery, caused by high cholesterol and triggered by extreme stress. She cited the immense pressure of managing a large state budget as the primary source of stress, noting that she never signed important documents alone and always required review and initials from two deputy heads. Despite her resignation from BGN, Nanik remains an Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero), a position she has held since 12 June 2025.
