Name of Director General of Customs Emerges in Importation Case, KPK Chief Outlines Next Steps

Banten, Kompas.com - The Chair of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setyo Budiyanto, said the anti-corruption agency would review the court records relating to the emergence of the name of the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budi Utama, in a case of alleged corruption in the importation of goods within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Setyo said the leadership of the KPK would not pre-empt the investigative strategy in handling the matter.

‘Yes, that is why it will be studied, processed, and discussed. We as the leadership will not want to pre-empt, because we must not mix up evolving information with what is obtained at the examination stage in court,’ Setyo said at a Media Gathering in Anyer, Banten, on Thursday (21 May 2026).

‘That is where the strategy to be pursued by the investigators will be reported,’ he added.

Initially, the Head of the Intelligence Section of Customs I, Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Orlando Hamonangan, or Ocoy admitted to having been ordered by the Head of the Intelligence Sub-Directorate P2 of DJBC, Sisprian Subiaksono, to arrange a meeting with John.

‘Who was the first to tell Ocoy, ’We want to arrange a meeting at Hotel Borobudur?’. As far as Ocoy recalls, who had the initiative and then conveyed it to Ocoy?’ asked a prosecutor at the Corruption Court, East Jakarta, Wednesday (20 May 2026).

‘I do not know who initiated it, I only received an instruction to contact John: ’there will be a meeting at Hotel Borobudur’,’ Ocoy replied.

‘So it was conveyed that you contact John so that he would come to Hotel Borobudur. Then he would meet with the Director General, Mr Djaka, followed by Mr Rizal and Mr Sisprian. Is that right?’ the prosecutor asked.

‘Yes, Sir,’ Ocoy replied.

To the prosecutor, Ocoy admitted that he did not know the reasons for the meeting when asked.

‘I do not fully understand maybe to make introductions or something like that; I was told only to contact him,’ he said.

He went on that the meeting at Hotel Borobudur took place around 20:00 to 22:00 WIB on 22 July 2025.
