Nakula Fire Expected to Take 2-3 Days to Extinguish

The process of extinguishing a land fire on the border between Legian and Denpasar, specifically on Jalan Naklam, Gang Jatayu, Pemecutan Kelod, West Denpasar, Bali, is estimated to require two to three days. The area of land burnt has reached approximately five hectares.

The Head of the Denpasar City Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat), I Made Tirana, revealed that 12 units have been deployed to handle the fire. He added that the operation is also being supported by six fire engines from the Badung Regency.

“The area is about 4 to 5 hectares,” said Tirana on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Tirana explained that the fire is located in an area close to residential settlements. Nearby, there are lands and warehouses frequently used by scavengers to collect waste.

Tirana admitted that firefighters are facing obstacles as several fire points are covered by corrugated iron from old warehouse roofs. Currently, field officers are awaiting heavy excavators to dismantle the materials covering the hotspots.

“If the heavy equipment arrives quickly, we can resolve this faster. The extinguishing process will take roughly two to three days,” Tirana stated.

“Given the vastness of the area and the challenging terrain we are handling, everything is covered in corrugated iron,” he added.

Tirana confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire. He urged residents to increase their vigilance against potential fire risks, especially during hot weather and prolonged droughts.

“Stay alert and ensure that no Denpasar residents burn rubbish indiscriminately,” he concluded.

The land fire was first discovered on Monday night (31/8). Hundreds of households (KK) have been affected by the fire on the Legian-Denpasar border.

Observations on Tuesday afternoon showed that several buildings around the fire site appeared burnt and levelled to the ground. Asmuni, a resident whose house was caught in the fire, stated that approximately 100 houses were affected.

Another resident, Tukiran, claimed to have heard explosions when the fire broke out on Monday night. According to him, several vehicles and semi-permanent buildings in the vicinity were also burnt.

“An Avanza, a pickup, and others were there. Those semi-permanent houses were all burnt. There were many, too many to count,” said Tukiran.
