Nahdlatul Ulama Congress Scheduled for August

General Secretary of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU), Saifullah Yusuf, stated that preparations for the NU Congress are still proceeding according to plan. He mentioned that the implementation of this highest five-yearly deliberative forum is scheduled for August 2026.

“A small committee has been formed, and now we have finalised the committee structure needed for organising the National Conference (Konbes), the Ulama Scholars’ National Meeting (Munas Alim Ulama), and the Congress,” said Gus Ipul, his nickname, in a written statement on Monday, 27 April 2026.

He explained that four individuals have been appointed to the small committee for the NU Congress. They are Said Asrori as Chair of the Steering Committee, Mohammad Nuh as Secretary of the Steering Committee, Saifullah Yusuf as Chair of the Organising Committee, and Amin Said Husni as Secretary of the Organising Committee.

The Social Minister stated that the complete committee structure for the NU Congress will be reported to the Rais Aam and General Chairman of PBNU. “The main point is that the congress preparation process is continuing. We will report it later,” he said.

Regarding the participants of the NU Congress, he said they will come from branch and regional boards that have leadership decree letters. For decrees that are still delayed, he mentioned that the process is still being discussed by a panel team chaired by Muhammad Nuh.

That panel team is tasked with resolving the pending leadership decrees before the congress takes place. “Therefore, to the regional and branch boards, we ask everyone to focus on preparing for the congress,” said Gus Ipul.
