Nagekeo Regent Simplisius Donatus has extended the earthquake disaster emergency status for 14 days. The emergency status has been extended until 27 September 2026.

The extension of the emergency status takes effect from 14 September 2026. Previously, the emergency period lasted 30 days, beginning on 15 August 2026 and ending on 13 September 2026.

“The earthquake disaster emergency status has been extended until 27 September,” said the Head of the Nagekeo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Remigius Jago, on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

The second extension of the emergency status is set out in a Decree (SK) issued by the Nagekeo Regent dated 14 September 2026.

The continuing aftershocks occurring in Nagekeo were a consideration in extending the emergency period. Emergency response and monitoring of aftershocks are still required following the end of the previous emergency status.

“Based on monitoring by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency up to 12 September 2026, aftershock activity is still occurring, so there is a need for continuity of response, protection of the community, fulfilment of basic needs, and management of the disaster’s impact,” read one of the points of consideration in the Regent’s decree.

Nagekeo Regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is known to be among the areas worst affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake on 15 August and its subsequent aftershocks.

The earthquake killed 20 people, with 34 sustaining serious injuries and 139 sustaining minor injuries. A total of 81,077 people were also displaced.
