Nagekeo Earthquake Victims Receive Rp 1 Billion Donation from Kupang Regency Government
Victims of the M 7.7 earthquake in Nagekeo have received a donation of Rp 1 billion from the Kupang Regency Government. The funds were handed over directly by the Regent of Kupang, Yosef Lede, on Saturday night (29/08/2026).
“It is true, this is the largest assistance from a regency government so far. The amount is Rp 1 billion,” stated the Deputy Regent of Nagekeo, Gonzalo Gratianus Muga Sada, during an interview at the Nagekeo BPBD post on Sunday (30/08/2026).
According to Gonzalo, the funds were transferred directly into the Nagekeo Regency Government’s treasury account. Alongside the monetary aid, the Kupang Regency Government also distributed 1.6 tonnes of essential food supplies and other necessities.
“It is truly extraordinary. This is proof that solidarity and brotherhood between regions are still well-maintained,” Gonzalo explained.
Gonzalo stated that he will immediately verify the funds in the regional treasury account to ensure they are utilised for the displaced persons and meet their specific needs.
“Because if it is misused, it is a sin and carries legal consequences. Therefore, I must ensure that it provides benefits to the community,” Gonzalo added.
“Whether the donations come from individuals, groups, or others, they will still be audited,” he continued.
Gonzalo expressed his gratitude to the Regent, the Deputy Regent, the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), and the people of Kupang Regency for the assistance provided to Nagekeo.
