Nagan Raya Jade Secures Intellectual Property Rights Certification
The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law in Aceh, Dr Meurah Budiman, stated that Nagan Raya Jade (Batu Giok) has now obtained Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) from the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia.
“The patent rights for Nagan Jade have been issued. God willing, we will present them during the anniversary celebrations of the Nagan Raya Regency,” said Meurah Budiman in a statement received in Nagan Raya on Friday.
According to him, the issuance of IPR for Nagan Jade is a follow-up to a proposal from the Nagan Raya Regency Government, considering that the area is one of the famous jade producers in Aceh.
“With the issuance of this IPR, Nagan Jade now possesses legal protection and serves as the official identity of Nagan Raya Regency, which can strengthen the competitiveness of regional products,” he added.
He further noted that the entire process of registering intellectual property in Nagan Raya is part of the Ministry of Law’s priority programme to provide protection for various potential intellectual property and geographical indications held by the region.
“Hopefully, the intellectual property existing in Nagan Raya can be supported by the formation of legal entities to advance the community’s economy, especially for MSME entrepreneurs,” he said.
Meurah Budiman mentioned that intellectual property protection is not only related to product registration but also encompasses the formation of legal entities, trademark registration, copyright, patents, and various other forms of protection.
He acknowledged that one of the ongoing challenges is the low level of public understanding regarding the importance of intellectual property protection, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players.
“The obstacle in the field is that our community does not yet realise that intellectual property protection exists, especially MSME entrepreneurs. This is vital for providing legal certainty while simultaneously fostering the local economy,” he explained.
The Nagan Raya Regency Government in Aceh has welcomed the issuance of Intellectual Property Rights for Nagan Jade, a local natural stone known as one of the flagship potentials of the Nagan Raya Regency.
“Our thanks go to the Aceh Ministry of Law Regional Office. With this recognition, it marks an important step in preserving and developing regional potential to achieve higher economic value,” said the Acting Regional Secretary of Nagan Raya, Aceh, Hizbulwatan.
He noted that this recognition is a strategic step in providing legal protection and increasing the economic value of the region’s natural wealth.
He expressed hope that the existence of IPR would serve as a momentum for the community and entrepreneurs in Nagan Raya to continue developing the potential of Nagan Jade sustainably, thereby impacting the improvement of the regional economy.
