Nagan Raya Jade Secures Intellectual Property Rights Certification

The Head of the Aceh Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, Dr Meurah Budiman, announced that Aceh’s Nagan Jade has now secured intellectual property rights (IPR) from the Office of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia. “The patent rights for Nagan Jade have been issued. God willing, we will hand it over during the anniversary celebration of Nagan Raya Regency,” said Meurah Budiman in a statement received in Nagan Raya on Friday. According to him, the issuance of the IPR for Nagan Jade is a follow-up to a proposal from the Nagan Raya Regency Government, considering the area is one of the renowned jade producers in Aceh. “With the issuance of this IPR, Nagan Jade now has legal protection while also becoming the official identity of Nagan Raya Regency, which can strengthen the competitiveness of regional products,” he continued. He added that the entire intellectual property registration process in Nagan Raya is part of the Ministry of Law’s priority programme to provide protection for various intellectual property potentials and geographical indications owned by the region. “Hopefully, the intellectual property in Nagan Raya can be used to establish legal entities in order to advance the community’s economy, especially for MSME entrepreneurs,” he said. Meurah Budiman noted that intellectual property protection is not only related to the registration of a product but also includes the establishment of legal entities, trademark registration, copyright, patent rights, and various other forms of protection. He acknowledged that one of the challenges still faced is the low level of public understanding regarding the importance of intellectual property protection, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players. “Indeed, the obstacle in the field is that our community does not yet know that there is intellectual property protection, especially MSME entrepreneurs. This is important in order to provide legal guarantees while growing the community’s economy itself,” he explained. The Nagan Raya Regency Government in Aceh welcomed the issuance of the Intellectual Property Rights for Nagan Jade, a distinctive natural stone from the region that has long been known as one of Nagan Raya Regency’s leading potentials. “Thank you to the Aceh Regional Office of the Ministry of Law. With this recognition, it becomes an important step in safeguarding and developing regional potential so that it has higher economic value,” said Acting Regional Secretary of Nagan Raya, Aceh, Hizbulwatan. According to him, this recognition is a strategic step in providing legal protection while increasing the economic value of the region’s natural resources. He expressed hope that the existence of this IPR can become a momentum for the community and business actors in Nagan Raya to continue developing the potential of Nagan Jade sustainably, thereby having an impact on improving the regional economy.
