Nadiem's Subordinate, Sri Wahyuningsih, Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison
Former Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Sri Wahyuningsih, has been sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million.
In the trial held at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court (PN Tipikor) on Thursday, 30 April 2026, the panel of judges found the former subordinate of Minister Nadiem Makarim guilty in the Chromebook laptop procurement case.
“The defendant is hereby sentenced to imprisonment for four years and a fine of Rp500,000,000, to be paid within one month and extendable for a maximum of one month from the date the decision gains legal force,” stated the Judge.
Meanwhile, several aggravating factors influenced Sri’s sentence in the Chromebook laptop procurement case. The judge explained that Sri’s actions resulted in substantial losses to the state.
The defendant’s actions were carried out in the education sector, which is a strategic area for national development and directly impacts the quality of education for Indonesian children.
Thus, this corruption offence in the education sector has dual impacts: financial losses to the state and non-material losses in the form of hindered equitable quality of education.
On the other hand, several mitigating factors for Sri’s sentence include that she has never been involved in any criminal case and has served as a Civil Servant in the education field for 38 years with a good track record, having received the Satyalancana Karya Satya honour.
The defendant held a mid-level structural position as an implementer and was not a policy designer.
This verdict is lower than the prosecution’s demand. Previously, the prosecutors sought six years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million for Sri.
For information, Sri Wahyuningsih, as Director of Primary Schools in the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education from 2020-2021, Mulyatsyah as Director of Junior High Schools at Kemendikbudristek in 2020, and Ibrahim Arief (IBAM) as a consultant, were charged alongside former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim with corruption in the Chromebook laptop procurement.
This procurement is said to have caused state losses of Rp2.1 trillion. That amount comes from the overpricing of Chromebooks by Rp1,567,888,662,716.74 (Rp1.5 trillion) and the procurement of unnecessary and unbeneficial CDM worth Rp621,387,678,730 (Rp621 billion).
