Nadiem Undergoes Fourth Surgery Amid Eid Break, Still Faces Chromebook Case Hearing
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim admitted to undergoing another operation during the break for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. “Yes. Fourth operation, have to start over from the beginning,” Nadiem said as he entered the courtroom at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (30/3/2026). Although he had just undergone surgery, Nadiem claimed to be ready to follow the continuation of the alleged corruption trial for Chromebook-based laptop procurement today. “Healthy, Alhamdulillah,” Nadiem said. In the last hearing before the Eid holiday break, specifically on Thursday (12/3/2026), Nadiem was reported to have been hospitalised. In that Thursday’s hearing, the legal advisory team stated that Nadiem required follow-up surgery around 17 March 2026. Nadiem himself had previously shared his health condition during the hearing on Thursday (5/3/2026). He admitted that his health condition had deteriorated and required intensive care. “Your Honour, I am ready to face today’s hearing. However, based on the MRI test results from yesterday, the report is not good; there has been a setback in my recovery,” Nadiem said during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday. Nadiem admitted to experiencing a reinfection at the site of his previous surgery inside his body. It is known that Nadiem underwent surgery at the end of December 2025. This medical procedure caused the reading of the indictment on 23 December 2025 to be postponed. Nadiem underwent post-surgery treatment for 21 days.
