JAKARTA - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim stated that his health condition is still fluctuating ahead of the continuation of the trial for the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.

“Thank you, Your Honour, I am ready to attend today’s hearing even though my health condition is still fluctuating, but I am ready to go through today’s hearing,” Nadiem said during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Monday (13/4/2026).

The Chief Judge of the Panel, Purwanto S Abdullah, reminded Nadiem to report if his health condition becomes an obstacle during the hearing.

“Alright, later report your condition during the trial,” said Judge Purwanto.

Since this case began in December 2025, Nadiem’s health condition has indeed been fluctuating.

He had previously undergone surgery, leading to the postponement of the reading of the indictment to early January 2026.

At the hearing on Thursday (5/3/2026), Nadiem admitted that his health condition had deteriorated and required intensive care.

Nadiem is known to have repeatedly undergone surgery for the illness he suffers from.

Some time ago, the party also resubmitted a request for a change of detention.

Nadiem is accused of enriching himself by Rp 809 billion.

This figure is said to stem from Google’s investment in Gojek or PT AKAB.

Nadiem is alleged to have abused his authority, making Google the sole controller of ICT procurement, including laptops, in Indonesia’s technology ecosystem.

Nadiem carried out this act together with three other defendants, namely former Technology Consultant in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief; Director of SMP in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2020–2021 as well as Budget User Representative (KPA), Mulyatsyah; and Director of SD in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2020–2021 as well as KPA, Sri Wahyuningsih.

For their actions, Nadiem and the other defendants are threatened with Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 jo. Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001 on Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
