Nadiem Reveals Impressive Track Record of Jurist Tan: Former Gojek, World Bank, and Presidential Staff Member
JAKARTA — Former special staff member to the minister and accused party Jurist Tan possessed an impressive professional track record before assisting Nadiem Makarim during his tenure as Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek).
Nadiem disclosed this information whilst being examined as a witness in the continuation of the hearing in the alleged corruption case involving laptop procurement based on Chromebook devices for three defendants at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Nadiem revealed that he first met Jurist approximately five years before his appointment as minister in October 2019, as both had worked at PT Gojek Indonesia.
“I know Jurist from five years before that, because Gojek at PT GI. He helped there back then,” Nadiem stated during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
Nadiem did not specify how long Jurist had worked at Gojek.
When they resumed communication, Nadiem learned that Jurist had been working at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP).
“At KSP, he was there for several years. And before that at the World Bank, if I’m not mistaken, Your Honour,” Nadiem said.
Presiding Judge Purwanto S Abdullah sought to clarify the working relationship between Nadiem and Jurist that had been established before their collaboration at the Education Ministry.
“So, you already knew Jurist Tan beforehand, did you?” asked Judge Purwanto.
However, the two had not maintained contact during a five-year interval.
“I knew him back when we were very young. But after that, for approximately five years there was no communication, then I met him again when I received information about the potential to become Education Minister, and it turned out he was at KSP,” Nadiem explained.
Nadiem is currently a defendant in the Chromebook case, whilst Jurist remains a fugitive suspect. Nadiem faces charges of unlawfully enriching himself by approximately 809 billion rupiah.
