Nadiem Reports Four Central Jakarta Corruption Court Judges to Judicial Commission

Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim has reported four judges of the Central Jakarta Corruption Court to the Judicial Commission. The report was submitted by his legal team and his wife, Franka Makarim, at the Judicial Commission building in Kramat, Jakarta, on Monday. “We have officially filed a report with the Judicial Commission regarding the case we are handling, the case of Nadiem Anwar Makarim at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court,” said Ari Yusuf Amir, a member of Nadiem’s legal team. The four judges reported are Purwanto S. Abdullah, Sunoto, Eryusman, and Mardianto. Ari explained that the report concerns alleged violations of the judges’ code of ethics and conduct. “We emphasise that these reports are accompanied by concrete evidence,” he stated. According to him, the team possesses tangible evidence because they recorded every session during the trial, and the proceedings were open to the public, allowing all parties to witness the process. The key point of the report involves the four judges who jointly decided Nadiem’s case. He acknowledged that a guilty verdict and differing opinions among judges fall within the panel’s authority. The issue, he said, is the alleged manipulation of trial facts, which Nadiem’s side deeply regrets. “What we reported is the extensive manipulation of trial facts carried out by the four judges. We have detailed this manipulation to the Judicial Commission so they can verify whether our report is accurate,” he said. Dody Abdul Kadir, another of Nadiem’s lawyers, said the report was made with the hope of improving and refining the judicial process. “Because the judicial process is not only about seeking justice, but it must be able to find justice,” Dody stated. Meanwhile, Nadiem’s wife, Franka Makarim, said her presence at the Judicial Commission was not only as a wife but also as a citizen experiencing legal issues. She said her husband has been detained since 4 September 2025 and has undergone every legal process hoping justice would be upheld. “Today we are once again entrusting that this justice can be obtained within the institutions that must exist in this judiciary. Because that is the mandate given to those within this institution, we are here to seek that justice,” Franka said. Nadiem was also sentenced to a fine of Rp1 billion, with the provision that if unpaid, it would be replaced by 190 days of imprisonment. The judges’ verdict was significantly lighter than the prosecutors’ demands. Previously, Nadiem had been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rp1 billion subsidiary to 190 days in prison, and a restitution payment of Rp5.67 trillion subsidiary to 9 years’ imprisonment. Until the verdict was read, the Judicial Commission had not received a report regarding the Code of Ethics and Judicial Conduct Guidelines. “Regarding Nadiem, in accordance with our authority, we have been monitoring the case from the beginning,” a commission representative said. The Judicial Commission stated it is open to receiving any reports filed. “Every report we receive, whether it is a monitoring report or a report of alleged ethical violations, will certainly be followed up,” said Desmihardi. “We open the door to any report concerning alleged ethical violations committed by judges when examining and deciding a case,” he added.
